The Little District in an Enormous City

Huadu District – Guangzhou, China

Guangzhou: The city where I currently reside is massive, containing 11 urban districts. Among them, Huadu district is where I reside. While it may not exude the same glamour as the central area of Guangzhou, it possesses its own unique beauty, blending nature seamlessly with urban spaces. From this district, the heart of Guangzhou lies 30 kilometers away—a one-hour metro ride from the nearest station to ‘Haizhu Square’. The population here is diverse, with people hailing from all corners of China. Notably, Guangzhou hosts one of the largest expatriate communities in the country. Locals typically converse in Cantonese, as this is where the language originated. However, due to China’s educational system emphasizing Mandarin, everyone here is also proficient in Mandarin Chinese. I hope you enjoy the photos capturing the essence of this charming little corner—Huadu—in the sprawling city of Guangzhou.

I’ve only lived here for nearly a year, but I’ve grown accustomed to Huadu’s unique charm and its pros and cons. It’s not a traveler’s first destination in Guangzhou, so I thought it would be worth sharing its distinctive features—or at least the area where I reside.

On another note, this blog post marks my very first one. It documents my very first camera shoot using my brand-new Sony a6700 with the Sony E 10-20mm f/4 PZ G lens. As a newcomer to photography in this sense (using a camera instead of a phone), I would greatly appreciate any feedback you can provide regarding my first photo shoot of Huadu!
