The Tangyue Memorial Archways, located in Tangyue Village, Shexian County, Huangshan City of Anhui Province in China are an incredible and well-preserved complex of seven archways. These were built by the Baos family during the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Each of the 7 archways represent a unique, heart-touching story and showcases the virtues of the Tangyue people at the time. The archways are ordered in a axisymmetric way with delicate carvings, giving people a sense of being solemn. They are arranged in the order of their meaning: loyalty, filial, piety, chastity, and charity. The surrounding area contains farmland, beautiful trees, ponds, rivers, and ancient bridges which reflect the site selection and village construction principles of the ancient Tangyue people, to live in harmony with nature.

Around the area, and generally around all of China are ancient towns which many shops are located for strolling and shopping. It’s always a nice stop if you come across one. Each of the ancient towns I have been to bring upon their own unique touch and varying levels of authenticity.
